Celebration of Life
The Club at Riverside Golf Course
Starts at 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
Richard W. Blanchard passed away peacefully on March 18th, 2026, at Maine Medical Center with his family by his side.
Better known as Rick, he was born August 19th, 1957, to Dorothea and Robert Blanchard
Rick spent his childhood days on the West End of Portland where he had a reputation for his stellar baseball skills and natural athleticism, as well as his mischief. Rick could build or fix anything, leading him to a career in carpentry and later real estate.
Rick married his love Tena Christie on December 10th, 1983, and laid their roots down in Westbrook. His next chapter of being a dad perhaps became his legacy. He could be found on a basketball court or ball field coaching both of his children and cheering them on.
Always a natural, he decided to pick up golf. It became a passion of his and found many memories- including a hole in one, at Riverside Golf Course over the past 30 years.
His charisma and magnetic personality made him an easy friend to have. He could carry a conversation about nearly anything, including the Red Sox as he was no fair-weather fan.
He would light up when telling you about his 4 granddaughters. He made sure everyone knew how proud he was to call them his. His youngest granddaughter, Molly, was gifted the same birthday and he was tickled to have a birthday buddy. They will carry many memories of tinkering in Grampa’s garage and creating art projects with whatever wood scraps and trinkets were available.
Rick leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Tena, his children Joshua and wife Lisa, and daughter Christie and significant other Keith Neptune, granddaughters Madison Blanchard and significant other, Matt Babb, Sydney Blanchard, Piper and Molly Jordan; great grandson Maxwell. He also leaves behind sisters in law Eileen Norton and Nancy Blanchard, close nieces Clare Norton, Michelle Blomquist and Jaime Pearson and his life long friends Beau Mears and Bill Holmes, brothers Maurice and Michael Blanchard. He also leaves behind his side kick and best pal, Papi. .
He is predeceased by his father, Robert Blanchard, mother Dorothea Blanchard and brother Robert Blanchard.
Rick was fire, providing warmth with a sense of power. He was the light in the darkness. He lived unapologetically, loved without conditions and will be deeply missed- because he was deeply loved.
A celebration of life will be held at The Club at Riverside Golf Course on April 12, 2026, at 2pm. There will be a private burial later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, please pass along a good deed or act of kindness in memory of Rick.
