Obituary

Richard Bearor, 76, of Westbrook, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 after a short but brave battle with kidney failure.  His loving wife of 53 years Elizabeth was by his side. Richard spent four years in the Air Force stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base in MA, where he met his wife Elizabeth.  They later moved to East Millinocket, where he served as a volunteer firefighter. They eventually settled in Portland, where he worked for many years in the state unemployment office.   He later worked in the athletic office at Deering High School before pursuing a career in EMS as an EMT with both York Volunteer Ambulance and Northeast Ambulance.  During that time Richard spent a total of 19 1/2 years in the Maine Army and Air National Guard, as well as the New Hampshire National Guard, rising to the rank of TSGT. Richard also loved to umpire both Little League and high school baseball and softball, which he did for nearly 35 years, along with officiating high school football.  He was a past member of the Jaycees, Lions, and the Masons.  He was also active in the Maine Wing Civil Air Patrol as commander of the Cumberland County Composite Squadron, as squadron Commander. Richard leaves behind is wife Elizabeth, a brother Thomas and his wife Mary of Colebrook, NH; a daughter Bonnie Starkey and her husband Brian of Kittery; two sons, Kevin and his wife Bunny of Biddeford, and Russell and his wife Sandra of Waterboro; thirteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. A visiting hour will be from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday followed by a memorial service at 11 AM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.   In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Road, Tampa, FL, 33607.
