STANDISH—Raymond Staples Sr., 75, of Standish, passed away on November 7, 2017. He was born on November 21, 1941, a son of John B. and Catherine A. (Drugan) Staples. Ray grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts and graduated from Commerce High School. He attended post-secondary school and enrolled in the United States Coast Guard where he served for four years. On September 1, 1967, he married Jean Hannaford and together they moved to Maine where they made their home and raised their family. Ray was employed at Verizon as an equipment installer until his retirement. Throughout the years, Ray was heavily involved with several local civic organizations, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce, public safety volunteer, Cub Master of the Boy Scouts, and especially the Kiwanis Club of Standish. A man of few words, Ray enjoyed supporting the local high school sports teams, watching the races at Beech Ridge and going for long drives. Ray also loved spoiling his beloved dog, Bode. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jean Staples of Standish; a daughter Elizabeth Brown-Malia and her husband Peter of Standish and children Kevin Brown, Caroline Virginia Northrop, Johnathan Lawrence Malia and Elizabeth Joan Malia; son, Raymond Staples Jr. and his wife Pamela of Standish and children Raymond Joseph Staples, Renae Nicole Staples, Nicholas Patrick Staples, Liam Patrick Kelley and Alison Sage Kelley; son, Richard Allen Staples and his wife Gretchen and children Jacob William Staples, Broderick Keith Staples, Aiden Michael Staples, and Claira Marie Staples; and a brother, John "Jack" Staples and his wife Diane of Massachusetts. Ray was predeceased by a son, Brian Keith Staples, and two brothers, Charles and Lawrence Staples. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a visitation being held on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm at Dolby Blais & Segee- Gorham Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham, ME 04038. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 3pm at the Gorham Chapel.
