Windham Raymond S. Sawyer, 78, passed away Monday March 13, 2016, in Portland at Mercy hospital. He was born February 10, 1938, at the family home in Windham, a son of Clyde and Hazel (Hill) Sawyer. Raymond lived his entire life in Windham graduating high school in 1956. He had a rich career history that included mechanic work, time as a machinist with Thomas Laughlin's, and truck driving for Yarmouth Lumber, Land Air Express, and Hutchins Trucking. Raymond was also a talented carpenter and lived in the house he built until his passing. In addition to time with his grandchildren, one of Raymond's greatest passions in life was training race horses, which he was known for up and down the eastern seaboard. Fondly known as "Papa" to his grandchildren and the harness racing community, Raymond will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and for his dry sense of humor. In addition to his parents Raymond was predeceased by his brother Clyde Sawyer Jr., and his sister Barbara Hillock. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Karen (Mayo) Sawyer; son David Sawyer of Gorham; daughter Donna DuBois and her husband Todd of Biddeford; grandchildren, Derica Sawyer of Buxton, Isabella Solari of Gorham, and Thomas, William, and Samantha DuBois all of Biddeford; brother Ronald Sawyer and his wife Sandra of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held at 11:00AM Friday March 18, at Smith Cemetery, Gray Road, Windham. Following the service there will be a Celebration of Raymond's life at Raymond and Karen's home in Windham.
