Obituary

Rachel May (Rines) Wilson was born January 9, 1932 and peacefully passed away on November 16, 2024 after a long period of declining health. She was born in Portland Maine to Ernest and Linda Rines and attended and graduated from school in Standish. She married Robert L. Simpson and together had four children. After spending many years in New Hampshire with her second husband, Bruce Wilson, she moved back to her beloved Maine and spent several years on Bonny Eagle Pond with the "love of my life" Keith Waterman. Rachel loved the ocean and would collect a rock from there and also everywhere she visited. She'd also be able to tell you where each one came from even years later. She made many memories over her lifetime with a special group she called "my girlfriends" attending county fairs, sitting on the beach, sipping wine and having many wonderful adventures. She also enjoyed traveling, camping and for more than 20 straight years was the matriarch of our yearly family camping adventures. Rachel was a wonderful grandmother and adored all her grandchildren always giving her time and energy to them and creating many beautiful memories. They will all sadly miss her but will lovingly remember her always. She is survived by her daughter Vicki (Simpson) O'Leary and husband James, son Michael Simpson, daughter Tamara Simpson, daughter Kelley (Simpson) Anderson and husband Eric. Grandchildren Erica, Ethan, Chad, Sean, Ryan, Justin, Kati and Kaci. She was predeceased by her first grandchild Jason. There are 9 great grandchildren and many other 'adopted' children and grandchildren over the years. A celebration and burial will be at the convenience of the family in the spring in Steep Falls Maine. Although she loved flowers, Rachel was always a generous supporter of rescue horses and requested donation be made instead to her memory to the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals, 279 River Road, Windham Maine 04062, or the Humane Society of your choice.
