Phyllis J. Steichen With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Phyllis Judith Steichen (Lizotte), on September 2, 2025 at the age of 84, in Windham, Maine. Born on April 3, 1941 in Hartford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Condy and Jeanette Lizotte of Fort Kent, Maine. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a pillar of strength to her family and friends. She was known for her kindness and generosity. She was an amazing seamstress and quilter. She made clothing, quilts, and pillowcases for family and friends. Phyllis and the kids lived in many different places with her husband who was in the Air Force. She worked many jobs using her skills as a seamstress. She touched many lives with her warm spirit and always provided a listening ear, a good cup of coffee, and a warm embrace. She was giving of her time volunteering and loved to dance and listen to music. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Steichen, and her sons, Bruce Steichen and Michael Steichen. She is survived by her loving daughters, Elaine Swimm and her husband, Joel Swimm, of Fayette; their daughters, Olivia Swimm Garfield, husband Nick, and great-granddaughter, Mabel, of Richmond; and youngest daughter, Anna Swimm, of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Tina Steichen-Smith and husband, Scott Smith; son, Alex Steichen-Smith, and daughter, Helena Steichen-Smith, of Standish. Phyllis' siblings are sister, Rena Perez, and husband, Juan Perez, of Dayton, Ohio; brother, Don Lizotte, and wife, Sandy Lizotte, of Panama City, Florida; and sister, Elaine Gagnon, and husband, Bruce Gagnon, of Fairfield. She had many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held September 19, 2025 at the Maine Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local food pantry or charity of your choice. We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff of Ledgewood Nursing Home in Windham, Northern Light Hospice, and First Light Home Care for the compassionate care they provided to Phyllis.
