RAYMOND - Phyllis W. Hawkes, daughter of Andrew Foss and Mary Grant Arsenault Foss Howland, died at age 88 after a short illness at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. She married Clifford P. Hawkes, Jr. in 1946. They lived in Portland, ME until 1968 when they moved into their dream house at Bayview Estates in Raymond, ME. After her husband died in 1995, Phyllis moved to the Hillcrest community in Scarborough, ME. An avid volunteer, she ran Bluebirds at West School in Portland, as "Nana" tested ears and eyes at the Raymond elementary school, and served as ballot clerk in Raymond. Phyllis was a loving and devoted wife, mother of three children, grandmother to five grandchildren, great grandmother to fourteen, and aunt to many. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Conley of Portland, her son, Robert Hawkes and spouse Patricia of Shapleigh, her daughter, Debra Hawkes of Old Orchard, and son Peter Hawkes and spouse Roberta of Beaumont CA. In addition to her mother, father, and husband, Phyllis was predeceased by her brother, Edwin Arsenault, sister, Freida Richardson, and great grandson, Leopold Duchette. At her request, Phyllis will not have a service. A graveside ceremony at the time of her interment this spring will honor her life and celebrate the memories of those she touched.
