Obituary

Philip R Duchaine, 83 "Duke/Poppy/Pepere" Saco- Philip R Duchaine, 83 of Saco, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough surrounded by his family.  Philip was born March 30, 1931 in Westbrook to Emile and Alice McHugh Duchaine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Alice, and a brother Donald.  He is survived by his wife Janet Francoeur, son Marc Duchaine and wife Sherrie, Gail Duchaine and her partner Cate Orser, Lynn Martin and her husband Bill, Todd Duchaine and his wife Lisa.  He leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Nadine Caron and her husband Tim, Brian Martin, Daniel and Matthew Duchaine, as well as 2 great grandchildren Lilly and Jack Caron.  He also leaves behind his sister, Shirley Merserve and her husband Earle. Philip served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1953 as Corporal.  When he returned to Westbrook, he married his sweetheart Janet in 1953. They celebrated 61 years together. They lived and raised their family in Standish for 40 years.  He worked for SD Warren for 38 years, retiring in 1991.  Upon his retirement, he and his wife traveled to Florida during the winter months and spent time in New Port Richie. Philip mostly loved spending time with his family.  He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.  He was their biggest fan.  He went to basketball, baseball, football and lacrosse games; he never missed an opportunity to be part of his grandchildren's lives.  He loved sitting on the floor and playing with his great grandchildren.  He would play with trucks, color, or dig in the sand.  He always wanted to be part of whatever they enjoyed.  He was a long time member of the Coastal Fitness gym in Westbrook, was an avid runner, golfer, loved building camps and enjoyed working with his hands.  He enjoyed collecting antiques and finding hidden treasures at every antique shop.  One particular item he enjoyed collecting was antique banks, and has a large collection. The family would like to thank Maine Medical Center and the Gosnell House for their great care and support.  Visiting hours will be arranged by the Blais & Hay Funeral Home in Westbrook, Friday March 20th from 5:00-8:00pm. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 21st at St. Anthony's Church in Westbrook at 11:00am, followed by a reception at the church.  Interment with Military Honors will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta Maine at a later date.
