Obituary

Westbrook, ME – Peter Delbert Wescott, Sr., passed away on October 7, 2023 after a long battle with heart disease. He was born July 16, 1938 to Delbert Ernest Wescott and Ida Viola Martel in Westbrook, Maine. On August 23, 1958, Peter married and is survived by the love of his life Nancy Jane Hillock and they were happily married for sixty-five years. They made their home in Westbrook where they raised their five children. Growing up Peter loved baseball, basketball and football. His first job he was picking strawberries and was fired for eating and throwing the strawberries at fellow colleagues. He was then transferred to the barn to wash cows, which he loved. During high school he worked at First National Grocery store on Main St. Westbrook. He graduated from Westbrook High School Class of 1956. July 16 on his eighteenth birthday he started working at S.D. Warren paper mill in the machine shop, eventually working his way up to mill management. He retired from S.D. Warren after forty years. On August 9, 1957 he entered the armed forces of the United States Army National Guard Infantry leaving after thirteen years as a second lieutenant. He spent fifteen years in the Westbrook Fire Department as call firefighter of Engine 1 Co., retiring as a Captain. He served as a Westbrook city counselor for two years. During the years of raising five children he was involved in all of his kids' sports, clubs and activities. He was an avid outdoorsman, and spent many days hunting, fishing and passing his love for the outdoors onto his family. He loved spending his days teaching and fostering the next generation, so much so, that all of his children's friends were like children to him. Many of whom still maintain relationships to this day. Peter is survived by his wife Nancy, five children Kelly Lynn Wescott Bernier and partner Gregory Bean, Peter Delbert Wescott, II and his wife Pamela (Bernier), Patrick David Wescott and his wife Janice (Tilton), John Kennedy Wescott and his wife Jennifer (Rogers) and Delbert Ernest Wescott and his wife Wendy (Smith). Peter has twelve grandchildren Peter Delbert Wescott, III, and wife Jennifer, Jennifer McInnis and her husband Craig, Douglas Bernier and significant other Emily, Kurt Wescott and his wife Lindsay, Kyle Wescott and significant other Mikki, Alicia Wescott and her wife Kara, Jill Bernier and her wife Brianna, Cynthia Wescott and her wife Emma, Elizabeth Hurley and her husband Chris, Kristen Langlois and her husband Dave, Jonathan Wescott and Joshua Wescott. Peter is also survived by his brother David Wescott and his wife Joan, his sister Jeanne Refuse and sister-in-law Hilda Hillock Hill. He had thirteen great grandchildren whom he loved very much. Peter is predeceased Peter "Gizzy" Pizzo who was raised like a brother. He is also predeceased by his brothers-in-law and hunting partners Dwight Hillock and Randy Refuse. Visiting hours will be Wednesday October 11, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. The funeral will be Thursday October 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Leslie Foley officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
