Gorham- Peter Joseph Card "Pete", 62, passed away with his family by his side on September 10, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. The son of Lester and Maria (Lema) Card, he was born in Portland on May 24, 1955. He resided and attended schools in Cape Elizabeth, and spent summers on his family's island in Cundy's Harbor in Harpswell. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard, at the end of the Vietnam War. He continued to honor the Coast Guard Motto "Semper Paratus; Always Ready". He was in concrete construction, was self-employed as a mason, and built homes. In his later years he was a mechanic working on boats and automobiles. He enjoyed a lifetime of outdoors sportsmanship, and was an avid yachtsman. Pete was a lover of music, and was well known and respected among local musicians and bands. Above all he loved his wife and family, and enjoyed sharing his talents with them and with his friends. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Douglas. He is survived by his wife Julie, of 28 years, his son Shawn, his three daughters, Kayla, Jessica, and Kasey, six grandsons, and five granddaughters. He is also survived by his three brothers, Richard, Joseph, and Raymond, his sister Luisita, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 4-8 PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Coast Guard at 6:00 PM. His cremains will be scattered at sea at a later date. A celebration of Pete's life will also be held at a later date.
