Dr. Paul A. Vaughan Jr. 1934-2023 WINDHAM- Dr. Paul A. Vaughan Jr., 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Maine Medical Center on March 4, 2023, almost exactly 19 years to the day his wife passed. Paul was born in Waterville, Maine on November 3, 1934 to Paul A. Vaughan Sr. and Nellie Canavan. He lived in Berlin, NH briefly before moving to and growing up in Portland, Maine. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic Grammar School (now St. Brigid's) and graduated from Cheverus High School Class of 1952. His four children and four of his grandchildren also attended St. Joseph's. His son and four grandchildren have graduated from or are attending Cheverus High School. He attended Tufts College and graduated from Tufts Dental School Class of 1959 where he was Grand Master of Psi Omega fraternity, Senior Class Treasurer, and recipient of Tufts Alumni Scholarship. It was during his college and dental school years where he met some of his lifelong and closest friends: Lou, Hutch, Leight, Les, Dick, and Don to name a few. While in dental school, he also met his future wife Rosemarie St. Pierre, marrying her June 13, 1959 and spending 45 years together until her passing in 2004. When he married Rose, he also gained a "brother" in his brother-in-law Victor. Paul and Rose lived in Portland raising their children until moving to Windham in 2003. He was the recipient of the Army Senior Dental Program and spent 4 years in the army leaving as a captain in 1962. He practiced dentistry for many years in Portland, with his son David joining him in 1986, which he enjoyed very much. He worked until age 77 before retiring. He was a past member of the Eagles, Elks and Kiwanis clubs; a member and past president of the Greater Portland Dental Society; and a member of the Maine Dental and the American Dental Societies. He treasured his years at his camp on Sebago Lake with his family and friends, water skiing and boating in his younger years. In later years, he continued to enjoy the lake with friends and family at the campground. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren race around in the golf cart! He cherished camping with his friends and the years at Hutch's farm where the exploits of his bear kill and everyone's hunting and fishing skills grew each year, eventually the deer needn't worry unless they got into the kitchen! He was known for having a great sense of humor, as well as being fiercely independent and maybe slightly stubborn. He was a man known to live his life by the simple set of principles and values of honesty, integrity, and loyalty. His children and grandchildren will be forever grateful for his example and will do their best to live by his standards. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife Rosemarie. He was very loved and will be extremely missed by his four children: son David and wife Linda, of Windham; daughter Vicki and husband Timothy Hubbard, of Windham; daughter Kathleen Kingsley and husband David, of Windham; and daughter Michelle Yates, of Topsham; grandchildren, Connor and Abigail Vaughan, Jackson and Margaret Kingsley, and Finnegan Yates. He is also survived by nieces, Vicki St. Pierre Foster (Peter), Jeanne St. Pierre (Christopher Dowe), Donna St. Pierre, and Eva St. Pierre. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 10, at Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, Windham. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22 at St. Joseph's Church, Portland. Interment will be held afterward at Old Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice or to the Animal Refuge League, 217 Landing Road, Westbrook, Maine 04092 or Cheverus High School, 267 Ocean Avenue, Portland, Maine 04103.
