Obituary

On this day, Tuesday May 10, 2016, our Loving Mom, Nana, Great-Nana passed peacefully after giving a courageous fight to her battle with COPD and recent diagnose of cancer. She has resided in Windham the past 21 years with her daughter Pam and husband Scott in an in law apartment. Pat was born in Portland on February 15, 1933 the daughter of former State Representative George S. Knight and Mary (Molly) E. Lappin Knight. She graduated from Westbrook High School Class of 1951. Following graduation she was employed at the Westbrook Trust Bank. Her first years of marriage she settled in Westbrook, then a move to Binghamton, NY in 1955 for 8 years and two years in Rutland, VT, before the family moved back to Westbrook in 1965, just a few months before the birth of her third child. Pat worked at Fairchild-Semi Conductor, HillTop Nursery School, and then as a cafeteria worker for the Westbrook School System where she retired from in 2002 , after 27 years of dedicated service. She also worked Part time for Hannaford, So. Portland in the bakery for several years. A Life Member of the Deering Memorial Auxiliary #6859, where she was a very active member, holding several positions including President 3 times and Secretary for 16 years. Pat was also a District President Of the VFW Auxiliary. She was always available to work on raffles, dinners, bake sales, and many projects over the years the Auxiliary was involved with. When her son in law Ken Irish was deployed to Iraq in 2004, she and her daughter Pam collected items and packed boxes with school supplies the Aux. then mailed to his Unit to deliver to school children. Pat attended most State and District meetings and was able to attend a couple of National VFW Conventions. She loved to travel and did a lot with family and friends. She also was a member of several Bowling Leagues over the years. Her granddaughter Sarah danced and she attended every recital until she graduated High School ! She attended many sports, music, and scouting events for all of her grandchildren. She was Proud to attend her two oldest grandsons graduations from college and also able to travel for their weddings, she then said "Please God, Let me live to see a great-grandchild." How blest she has been with the love and joy of three! She was so happy to be able to attend all three of their Baptism's. After retiring she enjoyed reading Danielle Steel Novels, watching her beloved Red Sox!, her game shows Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy, following the UCONN basketball teams on TV, playing cards, lunch dates and weekly coffee with her "sister"-in-law Anita,(also some memorable family vacations and road trips with her ! ) and spending time with her family. She very much looked forward to visits from her grandsons, granddaughter-in laws, and great-grandkids. Since they learned to climb stairs they would wander over and say going to visit "great-nana", she just loved it! Pat was very Proud of ALL her grandchildren and never missed a chance to brag about all their accomplishments or share a picture of the little ones. You could always draw a smile if you showed up with a scratch ticket or chocolate, how Pat loved both!! Pat was predeceased by her parents George and Molly, infant sister Betty Jane, infant brother George Jr., brother, William E. Knight, her son, Ronald M. Gervais, Jr., and her grandson, Casey D.
