Orleans Jeffers – 87 – Westbrook, Maine On March 19th, 2015, Orleans Jeffers, passed away surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 16th, 1927, the daughter of the late Carmen and William King from North Stratford, New Hampshire, and is survived by her sisters Gloria Brooks and Carol Sibulkin. While living in New Hampshire, Orleans graduated from North Stratford High School in 1946, and then graduated Nursing School in Keene, New Hampshire, with a four year degree. Following her passion for helping others, Orleans began work as a Graduate Nurse, both in the operating rooms and where ever else her talents were needed in the hospital. Soon after starting her career, she met her future husband, the late Harry Jeffers, who was a patient in her care, and together they fell in love and moved to Maine to start a family. Here, she built a family of seven wonderful children, whom she loved and raised with passion and strength. One of the greatest loves in her life was her family, and this is evident in the memories she left behind to those who loved her. While her passion may have been her family, she was also deeply devoted to her faith in the Lord. She was well known in her church, and often spoke of her adventurous religious-based travels, including a trip to Israel and organizing a march on Washington. All who knew her saw the positive change she sought to make in this world, as made evident by her time as a public speaker in Maine legislature for the Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and many other examples. Orleans had so many accomplishments throughout her life that they would be too numerous to list, but inarguably one of her greatest feats was creating an inviting home for her family and friends. Through her surviving family, including children Doug Jeffers and wife Irene, Suzanne Molina and husband Tim, Michele Butterfield and husband Donald, Anna Bryan, Mary Jeffers-Gowen and husband Bruce, Michael Jeffers and wife Darlene, Chris Jeffers, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren it is evident that she focused on filling those who had the fortune of knowing her with her utmost love. However, her children all agree that her greatest pride was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom flocked to her for guidance, love, and friendship. Eric, his wife Anita, and children Marcus, Tristan, and Aiden Moulton, Heather, her husband John, and children Anthony and Lauren Orleans Luongo (her namesake), Brianne Butterfield, Maria Jeffers, Tessa and her husband Taylor Manning, Tyler Gowen, Nick Gowen, Darrick Jeffers, and Sara Jeffers are those who will carry on Orleans' legacy. She loved them all with every ounce of her being, and imbued in them a light that they will keep safe, and carry with them for the rest of their lives. A grandchild once asked Orleans if she would be a Guardian Angel when she made it to Heaven, and she replied that she was happy just being herself. For all who knew her, we understand that these things are one and the same. Services will be held at Blais and Hays Funeral Home in Westbrook, Maine on Tuesday, March 24th, 2015. The wake will be held from 1:00 to 3:00pm, with a service to follow from 3:00-4:00pm. All those who knew and loved Orleans Jeffers are welcome to attend.
