Westbrook Ola Shirley Kenney 96 passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2023 with her daughter Gail by her side. She was born May 11, 1926 in Waterville the daughter of the late Harold Keniston and Katherine (Paradise) Keniston. She was raised there until the family moved to Munjoy Hill. in 1943. She graduated from Portland High School class of 1944. While growing up in Waterville she adored many dance recitals. Wearing the costumes was her favorite part. Her Teen time was spending weekends helping at her Aunt & Uncle Farm in Sidney. She enjoyed shooting skeets but mostly missing. After graduating she began working for New England Telephone Co. A co-worker arranged a blind date with the young and handsome Ronald Richard Kenney just home from his military service in Korea. Dates to go dancing and picnics together were many of her favorite memories. They were married on September 3, 1949 in the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Portland and soon made their home in Westbrook. She became a homemaker after the birth of their first son followed by another son and a daughter. Ola had many hobbies, knitting, crocheting, sewing, refinishing furniture, caning chairs, and ceramics. She found time to learn and play the organ and Dad's accordion. Ola became a talented painter through the years. Another tremendous great joy of hers. Giving art lessons to her two special students only hours prior to her passing. After Ronald retired they traveled often to many destinations near and far. In 2009 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they had many pets over the years and she tended to spoil them all, even the stray cats taking residence in the garage. She became a member of the Westbrook Women's club at 86 for 6 years and participated in The Westbrook Together Days parade and booth duty. She volunteered for Ruth's Reusable Resources that benefits teachers and other non- profits. Ola was a happy vibrant Lady. She was a dedicated daughter, wife and mother. Always dressing with style and taste. Someone who was eager to help others, easily made friends and often made polite conversation with strangers. She will be deeply missed by all.
