Obituary

Gorham Norman C. Wedge, 81, died Sunday April 16, 2017 at the Gorham House with his family by his side. He was born December 31, 1935 in Westbrook, a son of Anthony and Mildred (Miller) Wedge. Norman grew up in Westbrook and attended local schools. He was a 1954 graduate of Westbrook High School and a 1956 graduate of Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. Norman had a great work ethic. His first job was at Ray LeTartes' gas station on Main Street in Westbrook. After graduating from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute he was employed at Hudson Pulp and Paper for five years. From there he went to S.D. Warren where he worked for 33 years as a Mechanical Engineer. After leaving S.D. Warren he started a second career as an Insurance Inspector for Profile Inspections where he worked until he became ill last year. Norman was an active member in the Gorham community. He was a member of the Gorham Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. Up until his illness he was an active member in the Gorham Lions Club. He was a past President and was a driving force in many of the clubs activities and fundraisers. He helped start the annual car show and the 5K road race. He also enjoyed bottle and coin collecting in his spare time. Norman will always be remembered as a good-natured family man with an easygoing personality. Above all Norman enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Shirley (Bragdon) Wedge; children, Debra Deering and her husband Lindley of Raymond, Donna Harmon and her husband Robert of Corea, Dianna Brown and her husband William of Wells, Doreen Holden and her husband Michael of Campton, NH, and Douglas Wedge and his wife Jennifer of Scarborough; brother, Anthony Wedge Jr. and his wife Ann of Portland; sister, Gloria Dobson and her husband Richard of Castleton, NY; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Normans' family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Gorham House for the outstanding care he received while he was there. Special thanks go out to Peter Lund, Mary Douglass, Kathy Perry, Nancy Mash and Lindsay LaVertu. Visiting hours will be held Saturday April 22, from 12:00 – 2:00PM at the Gorham Chapel of Dolby Funeral Chapels, 76 State Street, Gorham. A funeral service will be held following visitation at 2:00PM. Interment will be held later in the spring at the Hillside Cemetery, Houston Road, Gorham.
