GORHAM - Nancy S. Nevells, 77, formally of CT, VT, and ME. passed away at home after a two year struggle with cancer. She was born in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late John and Vincenza (Panasci) Ricupero. After college she traveled internationally and then taught school in the Goshen, CT school district for nearly 40 years before retiring. She and her husband, Melville P. Nevells, lived in CT, VT, and eventually ME. Her enjoyment came from teaching kindergarten through 5th grade, including special education. She still communicated with these students throughout the years. Even after retirement her love of children never ended. She was known to take all her students under her wing giving them motherly love, advice and even clothes. She cherished her involvement with the church, Cressey Road United Methodist Church in Gorham, especially with the cancer support group, organizing the Cressey Road Church Prayer Angels who provided prayers and cards for the sick and their care givers and organized communion for those at home. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and Trinity Circle. Her passion was baking to which she was known as one of the Queens of the annual Church Cookie Fare. Her strong heart provided many meals for those in need, as well as flowers through the Flower Ministry. She was a role model for all of the church-generous, loving, dedicated and faithfully embracing these traits as a servant of Jesus. At home her passion for her dogs and flower garden were unmatched. Well before Nancy's illness began, she enjoyed a special relationship with John and Amanda Cross and their children, and with Deborah Connolly, who each lovingly cared for Nancy. She also had an unending love for her predeceased husband, Melville P. Nevells. She is also predeceased by one sister, Dorothy "Dotty" J. Ricupero. A celebration of life for both Nancy Nevells and Melville Nevells will be held on Saturday, April, 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Cressey Road United Methodist Church, 81 Cressey Road, Gorham, ME.
