Obituary

Monica Porello was born in Mexico, Maine, February 19, 1926, to George and Desneiges (Hudon-Beaulieu) Labonte. She attended Rumford Catholic schools. She helped her parents raise her siblings after her mother died. She later worked in the nearby Diamond Match Factory. Monica married Sammy Porello in Rumford, ME, in 1948, and moved to Westbrook, ME. She helped Sam with his sandwich shops, and rental units. She also worked at Sebago Moc, shoe shop, for twenty years. She retired to take care of Sam in 1980. She never had children, but she was a second mother to her sister Rita Moreau's children: Larry, Jackie, Barney, Mark, and Paul. Both she and Sam are remembered for their generosity to their family, neighbors, and friends. She was a life-long member of Ste-Hyacinthe Church, Westbrook, Maine. She has many surviving family members across the nation: some of whom are: Larry & Hale` Moreau of Portland, ME; Jackie Moreau (Sister of Mercy) of Portland, ME; Barney & Mary-Camella Moreau of Topsham, ME; Mark & Joanne Moreau, of Underhill, VT; & Paul & Cathy Moreau of Westbrook, ME. Her surviving siblings are Florence Brooks Allen, of Coral Gables, FL; Bernard & Joan Labonte of Lebanon, ME; & Magella Sauve of Miami, FL. She had many G-nieces and G-nephews; & more family than we can count; that cared a great deal about her. Monica has been a resident of St. Joseph's Manor for eight years due to hip fractures and loss of mobility. She struggled with this adjustment and made the best of it. She was a cheerful presence to anyone who knew her. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at St. Anne's Church in Gorham.  Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Westbrook.  Arrangements are by Blais & Hay Funeral Home, Westbrook.  On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com. Donations in Monica's memory may be made: -VNA Hospice, 50 Foden Rd, So. Portland, ME or -Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 966 Riverside St, Portland, ME
