WESTBROOK—Michael John McCartan, 62, died unexpectedly on February 1, 2018. He was born March 10, 1955, a son of John and Grace (Hargrove) McCartan. Michael attended South Portland high School where he excelled in extra-curricular activities such as swimming, track, and martial arts. At the age of 17, he joined the Coast Guard where he dedicated four years of service and later joined the National Guard. Mike furthered his education at Kaplan University where he received a degree as a medical assistant. He worked in various construction jobs throughout his life, and was most recently employed as a cab driver. He loved fishing and enjoyed following politics, and collecting coins. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey McCartan; a brother Kevin McCartan and his wife Annie; a nephew Patrick McCartan, and his long time friend, Debbie Lund. He was predeceased by a brother, Hugh McCartan. There will be no services for Mike.
