Obituary

Limington - Maurice "Gus" Lavigne, 90, of Lost Cabin Lane, went home to be with the LORD on May 29, 2023. He was born on May 10, 1933 to Philip and Clara Lavigne of Westbrook where he lived most of his life. After attending school there, he enlisted in the navy, proudly serving his country for 4 active years, after which he was in the reserves, being called back to active duty for 10 months during the Cuban Missile Crisis and ultimately retiring from the Navy. He also retired from American Can Co. in 1993 after about 40 years working as a production mechanic. In those earlier years, he met and married Joan R. Ledger of Winn, Me. Together they raised a family on Breton St. In Westbrook. Gus was an outdoorsman, hunting and fishing the seasons. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and four wheeling at his shared camp with family as well as good buddies up north. He is remembered well by his family as someone that could fix anything. A trait that was passed to him from his father and part of the legacy he passed to his eldest son as well. He spent his summers with his family at Harmon's Beach on Sebago Lake in Standish where his parents had built a summer home in the 1930's. After Joan passed in 2004, Gus married Florence Mackie of South Portland. They were married for a few short years before Florence passed. A short while later he became a loving companion to Lela Quinn for a number of years until her passing in 2022. He spent most of his days in his last years going to work with his son, John, helping to fix and maintain heating systems, something he would proudly explain to anyone that asked what he did with his time. He loved his children and his grandchildren with enormous love. His favorite times were having his family all together at gatherings at the lake and on holidays. Gus is survived by his sister, Patricia Martin, his son John Lavigne and wife Kelley, their 3 children, Marina, Cutter and Coral, his son Peter Lavigne, his daughter Julie Lavigne and her 2 children, Elizabeth Lavigne and Luke Inman. Funeral services will be held at Dolby Blais & Segee at 35 Church St.Westbrook, ME on Monday June 5, 2023. A visiting hour will begin at 2:00 pm, with the service following at 3:00 pm as well as a small graveside ceremony directly following.
