Obituary

Matthew Steven Rairdon~ Matthew life's was tragically taken from us on November 30th.  Matt was born on July 17, 1991 to his loving parents, Gary & Laurie (Wescott) Rairdon.   Matthew was a devoted son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and cherished friend by so many . Matthew was a 2009 graduate of Westbrook High School and a recent graduate of St. Joseph's College with a degree in the nursing program.  While a student at WHS he was active in the Key club, a talented actor in the school's drama program where he  achieved an award in the play the Zen Substitute.  He had a love of music from a young age participating in the Boys Singers of Maine and continued on with the Jazz ensemble.   Matthew had the unfortunate opportunity to spend time in the Barbara Bush Hospital while in high school with Osteomyelitis in his back. This is what led to his interest in nursing.   Matthew worked fulltime for most of his college career.  He started at Hannaford as soon as he turned 16, saving enough to put a substantial deposit on his first year at St. Joe's.  His love of people began with his time at the service desk where he loved his customers.  Not long after he began at St. Joe's he applied to Mercy hospital where he became a CNA, shortly thereafter became an emergency room tech.  He absolutely LOVED the ER and all the wonderful people he called his "work family". Besides all of his many loyal and loving friends, he is survived by his sister Erin of Gorham, Nicholas and his wife Andrea (Simpson) of Windham, Andrew and his girlfriend Kim (Gilbert) of Cumberland, his sister's Chelsea, Hannah and Kayla of Westbrook with whom he cherished dearly. His grandparents Paul and Rena Rairdon of Westbrook and David and Joan Wescott of Windham. He will be missed dearly by his best'est bud's, Brittany, Megan and Rachel. Because of who he was and the legacy he has left us, Matt will always live among us, a bright star shining in our darkest moments. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Westbrook High School Auditorium. Funeral Services will take place at the Westbrook High School Auditorium on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Bob Vaillancourt will officiate. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
