Obituary

Gorham Mary Ann Raymond, "Mother Mary", died peacefully in the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on April 18, 2016, at the age of 99. Born on April 5, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan. She retired while working at the Lochmoor Country Club in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. She later relocated to Los Angeles, California, then to Stamford, Connecticut, and eventually to Gorham, Maine. Every adventure included many friends she treated as family. She touched so many lives with her infectious smile and love of life, always concerned how everyone was doing. Mary was a very thoughtful and kind person who loved sharing stories and memories. She was also known for her sense of humor, wit and gentle elegance. Mary loved to cook and bake for friends and family and she loved to collect recipes. Mary loved gardening and enjoyed music and the arts. Mary is survived by her daughter Laura Case and son-in-law George Case of Gorham, Maine. She was the proud grandmother to Kathy Ayers and her husband John, Nick Raymond and his wife Mary, Heather Case, Sean Case and his wife Heatherlee, Courtney Case-Sweeney and the great grandmother of nine great grandchildren. Mary is preceded in death by "the love of her life" husband Charles Raymond, her son Richard Raymond and her sister Dotty Schmidt. The family would like to thank Eric and Kristin Segee at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House staff, Father Tim Higgins, St. Ann's Church, and all of the friends and families who supported us during the difficult hours and to all of those who enriched Mary's life. Mary was a devoted member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Windham. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00AM at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 40 Windham Center Road, Windham, Maine. Father Tim Higgins will officiate the ceremony. A reception will follow after the inurnment at St. Ann's Memorial Gardens following the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary's memory to: St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 40 Windham Center Road, Windham, Maine 04062.
