Obituary

Portland- Mary Irene Lee Davis, 97, passed away peacefully at Fallbrook Woods on October 27, 2018. She was born in Portland on February 26, 1921, to Walter P. Lee and Katie Conley Lee. She graduated from Deering High School in 1939 and from Gray's Business College in 1942. Mary then worked in the business office of the Osteopathic Hospital of Maine. During World War II, she volunteered as a nurse's aide at Maine General Hospital. On February 3, 1945, she married the love of her life, Wendell Bryant Davis, who was serving in the US Army. From 1950 to 1960, Mary was a homemaker, raising her family in Cape Elizabeth. In 1962, she worked as a court reporter for the Credit Bureau of Greater Portland. When Mr. Davis was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Mary resigned her position to care for her husband. They moved to Duck Pond Rd. in Westbrook, where they lived for many years. Mary cared for her beloved husband for twenty-five years until his death in 1990. In subsequent years, she enjoyed traveling with family members to Ireland, England and Mexico, as well as Florida, South Carolina, Hawaii, New York, and Nevada. Mary was predeceased by her husband Wendell, her three brothers, Walter, Robert and Martin, and her sister Katherine. She is survived by her daughter, Penny Davis-Dublin of Portland, her son Thomas Sukeforth of Falmouth; five grandchildren, Matthew Dublin, Erin Sukeforth, Robyn Sukeforth, Molly Sukeforth, and Sarah Sukeforth, her sister Rita Lee Foley of Portland, as well as many nephews and nieces. Mary's family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of Fallbrook Woods for the loving care they provided her. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church St. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Stroudwater St., Westbrook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to either The Maine Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 170 US Route One, Suite 200, Falmouth ME 04105, or to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One # 1, Scarborough ME 04074.
