WESTBROOK – Mary Margaret Beane died on January 13, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Margaret (as she was known to all that loved her) was born and raised in Westbrook, Maine on November 24, 1934 to Alex and Mildred Chaisson. At age 18, she married the boy next door, the love of her life, Clifford E. Beane Sr. They moved to Topeka, Kansas when Clifford joined the Air Force at the beginning of their married life together. In 1954, they returned to their hometown of Westbrook where they raised their 4 children. Their love for each other was very special. Clifford and Margaret celebrated 62 years of marriage before Clifford's passing in 2015. Margaret devoted her whole life to raising her family and building a life with her husband filled with love, laughter and friendship. She was a caregiver, a homemaker, a woman who led with her heart. She spent the last 10 years of her life caring for her husband while his health was in decline. She was selfless in her care of others. Once her children were in school, Margaret went to work at a drycleaners in Westbrook and then at Shaw's. She also helped her husband build his carpentry business. Margaret spent her life as a devoted Catholic. She was a Eucharist Minister and a member of The Daughters of St. Anne. Margaret loved to play cards, dice or whatever game was at hand with her family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her sisters and sharing family stories. Margaret made just about everyone in the family a beautiful knitted afghan to wrap themselves in her love forever. Her love was her greatest gift to her family and friends. We would like to express our sincere thanks to our Aunt, Loretta Hughes, who traveled from Texas to care for her sister following surgery. We would also like to thank the staff at Maine Medical Center, New England Rehabilitation and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their excellent care. Margaret is survived by her daughter Catherine and husband Brian Williams, son Clifford Beane Jr., son Gregory Beane and friend Kelly Wescott, and daughter Lori Beane, sisters Dorothy McGuirk and Loretta Hughes, sister-in-law Phyllis Sterling, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Visiting hours are from 4 to 6pm at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church Street in Westbrook on Tuesday, 17th January. The funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday, 18th January at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 268 Brown St. in Westbrook with a gathering in the hall downstairs following the funeral.
