Westbrook Mary Ellen Carmichael, 91, died Monday November 21, 2022, at Seaside Healthcare in Portland. She was born July 1, 1931, in Westbrook, a daughter of Melvin and Eleanor (Roberts) Waterhouse. Mary grew up in Westbrook, was a graduate of Westbrook High School and retired from Fairchild Semiconductor. She enjoyed music and especially singing and dancing. Mary loved dogs, the smell of sea roses, and could be found walking by the ocean in Maine, Cape Cod, and Florida. She was a snowbird and treasured her time in Florida with her friend Guy Heath. Her grandchildren, cherished her chocolate chip cookies with nuts. Mary was a long-time member of the Westbrook Warren Congregational Church. In addition to her parents Mary was predeceased by her husband, Ellery Carmichael; and sisters, Lois Randall, Ruth Dodge, Polly Carmichael, and Ella Chipman. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Cobb and her husband Philip, Diane Kane and her husband Michael, David Carmichael, John Carmichael and is wife Denise, and Adam Carmichael and his wife Tracy; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her longtime friend, Guy Heath. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00PM Saturday December 3, with a funeral following at 3:00PM, at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church Street, Westbrook. Interment will be held in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook.
