Obituary

Mary Jean (Peterson) Brenan, 85 Raymond – Jean died peacefully at home on February 5, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 21, 1931, in Fredericton, New Brunswick to Harold Raymond and Ina Amelia Peterson. Jean grew up in nearby Fredericton Junction and attended school there. After graduating in 1949, she entered the nursing program at the Saint John General Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick, graduating from there in 1952 as a registered nurse. Her nursing career included working as an outpatient dept. nurse and visiting nurse in Saint John, New Brunswick, a nursing home supervisor and a visiting nurse in Needham, Massachusetts and a nursing home supervisor in Bridgton, ME. On August 15, 1953, she married John A. B. Brenan at St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Fredericton Junction, New Brunswick. In addition to John, Jean leaves three children and six grandchildren; Mary Ellen (Philip) Murphy with three daughters, Gillian, Colleen, and Anna; Colin (Sandra) with daughter Julia and son Michael; James (Josée) with daughter Catherine. She leaves two surviving sisters, Elsie Sarah Peterson of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Lois Trueland of Thornbury, Ontario. Jean enjoyed playing doubles tennis with her friends, spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid bridge player. One of her greatest joys was creating a beautiful garden every year. An ardent traveler, Jean traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and she particularly loved visiting the United Kingdom. She was an active member in the United Church of Christ in Needham, MA and Raymond and Casco in Maine, serving as a deacon, a delegate and mission committee member. However, in 2009 she returned to her Anglican roots and became a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Windham. Her funeral will be held from St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 40 Windham Center Rd., Windham on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11am, followed by a reception at the church. Friends and family are kindly invited. Donations can be made in Jean's name to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 25 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240.
