Mary Ann Albert, 61, of Windham, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 19. She was born in Westbrook on July 3,1965, the youngest daughter of the late Roland Wilfred Albert and the late Janet Adeline (Rondeau) Albert.
Mary Ann was a 1983 graduate of Westbrook High School, where she was active in the Sock & Buskin Society. She worked at various careers, including running her own housekeeping business. In 2012 she graduated from a Certified Nursing Assistant course, and became a full time CNA at the Barron Center in Portland the following year. Later she became a Certified Medication Technician and continued her career at the Barron Center in that role. Mary Ann’s caring nature extended beyond her profession. She cared for both of her parents during their stays at the Barron Center. She cared for her father in the last months of his life, and she cared for her mother during the final years of her life, including through the pandemic.
Mary Ann’s friends and family remember her as vivacious, fun-loving and selfless. She made friends easily and maintained friendships dating back to grade school, as well as those formed at every place she worked. She was a natural caregiver who loved her job and the residents and staff at the Barron Center.
Mary Ann also had a special love for cats, from her first cat, Gus, to her last, Goatee, who recently passed away. Her favorite place was the beach, and she spent many happy days at Scarborough Beach and Pine Point Beach with her sisters, cousins, and friends. She loved music, especially the Beatles, Tom Petty, and Bruce Springsteen. One of her joys was watching her brother Peter play guitar, whether performing solo or with his various bands, most recently Legolas.
Mary Ann is survived by her sister Nancy Tarpinian and her husband, Michael, of Westbrook; her brother Paul of Harrison; her brother Peter and his wife, Catherine, of Westbrook; and her sister Becky of Tilton, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews who were very special to her. She leaves numerous friends, including longtime friends Susan Ledoux, Kristine Thuotte, and Judy Nelson Bouchard. She was predeceased by her parents.
Services will be held on November 12, 2026 at Dolby, Blais & Segee at 35 Church St., Westbrook. Visiting hour will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., gathering to follow at Bruno's Restaurant at 33 Allen Ave., Portland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to the Residents Benefit Fund at the Barron Center, 1145 Brighton Ave., Portland, ME 04102; or to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, PO Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098, or at arlgp.org/memorial.
