During his free time, Marty enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots. He was an avid sports fan and was able to recite all of the statistics for players whether they were from the New England teams or not. He was a member of St. Anthony's in Westbrook where he served as a communicant, and also on the Parish Council. Marty moved into the Maine Veterans' Home in Scarborough in April 2017. There he received loving care from all of the staff. There he was able to participate in many activities that brought great joy to him in his final months.
