Obituary

Martha Ellen (Christianson) Baughman, 82, of Portland, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at the Barron Center in Westbrook, ME. She was born to the late Melvin and Louise (Myles) Christianson.

As a small child, Martha could often be found at the Portland Press Herald. Martha attended Holy Cross graduated from Cathedral High School in 1961 and Mercy School of Nursing in 1964. As part of a nursing program, she went on to work in Washington D.C., where she marched for civil rights. After returning to Portland, she spent the majority of her nursing career on the pediatric floor at Mercy Hospital, and later worked at the Recovery Center until her retirement.

In 1983, Martha married her beloved late husband, Adron 'Al' Baughman of West Virginia, and became a stepmother to his six children; Adron B. Baughman II (Dec. 2/2/23), Leisha F. DiCenso, Brian H. Baughman (Dec. 7/19/24), Kevin L. Baughman, Kendra S. Clement, and Shanna M. Ross. She was the proud grandmother of Dustin Baughman and wife Shelby, Amanda Horning and husband Rusty, KC Perrault and husband Ken, Matthew DiCenso and wife LeAnn, Molly Baughman, Joshua Baughman, Scott Anderson , Justin Black, Alexandria C. Creapaux, William E. Creapaux II, Hunter A. Clement (Dec. 10/31/25), Helen Ross and Naomi Ross. In addition, she leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren. Martha and Al were avid travelers. After they retired, they took many road trips up and down the East Coast, cross country, and to Canada. While Baxter State Park became one of their frequent places to explore, her heart belonged to Two Lights State Park.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the Barron Center staff for their exceptional care and kindness.
