Obituary

Marjorie B. Cutter, 88, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2014 at the Barron Center with her loving family at her side.  She was born on August 12, 1925, to James and Junie (Christie) Smith of Lynn, Massachusetts.  She graduated from Lynn English High School and went to work at G. W. West Lynn Works until the start of WWII.  It was during that time that she met her husband Herbert Dana Cutter of Westbrook, Maine, and that is where they raised their family of 3 boys and 1 girl.  Marge worked at the Dana Warp Mill in Westbrook on and off for several years, and then began working at Fairchild Semi-Conductor in So. Portland.  She worked there for 22 years in the wafer sort department until her retirement in 1988.   She was a long time member of the Westbrook United Methodist church joining their choir, the United Methodist Women, Bible Study, Quilters and even the Clown Ministry.   After the Westbrook church closed, she joined the Cressey Rd. UMC of Gorham and sang in their choir until she was 85 years old!   She was also a long-time member and, for a time, president of the Chopin Club of Westbrook.  She had a beautiful voice, and as a young woman would sing at area USO shows with her sister, Gloria. She enjoyed being outside in the summer and loved camping, swimming and going on picnics.  Her family was her true joy, especially her grandchildren.  Nothing made her happier than when she had a baby in her arms.  She also never showed up at anyone's house empty-handed.  She always had some toy, trinket or household item that she had picked up "in her travels".  Yard sales and thrift shops were high on her list.   Marge was quite a ham and loved to laugh and to make other people laugh.  Although life wasn't always easy, she had an amazingly resilient spirit.  Our house was always filled with the sound of her humming and singing.     She is predeceased by husband, H. Dana Cutter, brother, Roland Smith, sisters, Gloria Smith and Rosalie Pouler.   She is survived by sons, Dennis Cutter and his wife, Beverly, Brian Cutter, and Douglas Cutter and his wife, Anna, and daughter, Junie Dugas, and her husband, Eric.   Grandchildren, Lea Moon, Melanie Cutter, Eric Cutter and wife, Shar, Jason Cutter and wife, Stephanie, Vanessa Cutter, Hillary Turner and husband, Philip, Lacy Dugas, Zachary Dugas, Kim Schulte, Paula Fournier, and Leona Henward and husband, Richard. Great-grandchildren, Jude Norgaard, Ryan Neilson, Jonah Neilson, Hayley Neilson, Patrick Begin, Rachel Begin, Richard Henward, III, Andrew Henward, Ella Cutter, Maeve Cutter, and Theo Cutter. One great-great grandchild, Timothy McCormack.   Services will be held Saturday, March 22, at Cressey Road United Methodist Church, 81 Cressey Rd.,  Gorham, Maine.  A visiting hour will be held at 10:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m.  A luncheon will be served after the service in the adjoining fellowship hall.  Burial will be at a later date.   For online condolences, please visit blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.  Flowers can be delivered to Cressey Rd. UMC or donations can be made to the Cressey Road United Methodist Women Mechuwana Camp Scholarship fund.
