Marjorie A McAloney passed away peacefully at her home on Peabody Pond in Sebago, Maine on Wednesday July 30, 2025, with her daughter at her side. At 98 she was the oldest citizen of Sebago, holding the Boston Post Cane since 2023. Marje was born Sept 23, 1926, in Winthrop Maine, the youngest child of William Canady Hinds and Mabel Rosamund Grover. Times were tough in those early years, with the family moving often if a cheaper rent could be found, but they were also happy years, surrounded by grandparents, and other family members. She was married in 1947 to Gilbert E McAloney Sr, and they spent 52 years together until his passing in 1999. Marje was a member of the Warren Congregational Church in Westbrook and the affiliated Scrooby Club. She was also an active participant in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Westbrook Fire Department for many years. More recently she was a member of the Sebago Historical Society. Marje went back to school in the early 1960s and became an LPN, working at Westbrook Community Hospital and then as an emergency room nurse at Maine Medical Center. Marje was preceded in death by her parents, brother James A Hinds, sister Frances Howard, as well as her husband Gib. She is survived by daughter Sherrill A Brown of Sebago; son Gilbert E McAloney Jr (Ed) and wife Dorothy of North Yarmouth; and son William D McAloney and wife Lynn of Milton Township. Also, two grandchildren: Jill Freitas of Edmond Ok and Greg Brown of Hiram; two great grandsons: Anthony Freitas and wife Amanda of Edmond Ok, and Dylan Freitas of Long Island New York. Surviving her are many nieces and nephews as well. Her kitty Scoobie Deux is missing her terribly; his favorite lap is no longer available. Anyone visiting Marje who asked, "How are you?" Would be answered with, "Perfect". Marje didn't have many hobbies but loved to read. In her final months, a book was always on her lap, for comfort more than anything. Anyone caring to make a donation in her name could send it to Spaulding Memorial Library in Sebago. She was devoted to her family and loved to host them at her home on Peabody Pond. The family would like to thank Connecting Companions of Bridgton for the many wonderful caregivers that they supplied over the last few years. Their loving care of her was greatly appreciated. Visiting hours will be Friday August 8, 2025, from 5PM - 8PM at Dolby Blais & Segee Funeral Home 434 River Road, South Windham. A graveside service will be held on Friday August 22, 2025, at 11 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery Stroudwater Street, Westbrook. Arrangements are under the care of Dolby Blais & Segee Funeral Home 434 River Road in Windham.
