Obituary

Marjorie Burnell Eames, 93, passed peacefully on May 15, 2023 with family by her side. She was born on November 17, 1929 in Cumberland, Maine, the daughter of the late Guy E. and Elsie (Brydon) Burnell. After graduating from Greely High School, she worked at Blue Cross for a few years before marriage. Marge married Arnold (Chuck) Eames on July 31, 1954 and they were married for 67 years and had three daughters, Judy Wing (Michael), Laurie Bernier (Donald), and Martha LaViolet (Gary). Marge and Chuck built a beautiful life together, creating a strong family foundation which continues on today through their children, spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to being a central figure in her family's lives, Marge was well known for her love and kindness to friends and neighbors. As an active member of her church (Westbrook-Warren Congregational), Marge was known for always taking care of others. She frequently brought over entire meals to sick or needy fellow parishioners, neighbors in need, and to her family. She was involved in many aspects of the church (Sunday school teacher, Bible Study group, Board member, Bean suppers) as well as an active participant in Couples Club, Friends Club, and Foster Parents Group. For many years, she transported patients to appointments through Hospital Auxiliary. Marge was a 55+ year member of Westbrook Women's Club, and took a turn as their President. Through the years, Marge enjoyed traveling with Chuck. Their travels took them throughout the states and beyond, with favorite annual trips to Lancaster. Marge was well known for her culinary skills. She loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends, and their home was often the gathering place. Marge enjoyed decorating and caring for her home. Many remember her best for her sense of humor, always eliciting a laugh when telling stories, and embellishing at times to make them more interesting. Marge's greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she will be greatly missed by them all. In addition to her parents, Marge was predeceased by her husband, Chuck, and two infant daughters, as well as siblings, Jean Crawford, Barbara Thompson, Donald Burnell, and David Burnell. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, eight grandchildren and spouses: Josh (Jenna) Wing, Seth (Jocelyn) Wing; Matt (Hannah) Bernier, Michelle (Brett) Ferry, and Jennifer Bernier; Luke (Tania) LaViolet, Jacob (Paulina) LaViolet and Adam (Dylan) LaViolet, and ten greatgrandchildren (and one on the way), and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Gorham House and Compassus for their amazing and compassionate care. Visiting Hours will be held at Dolby, Blais and Segee in Westbrook on Thursday, May 25 from 4-7:00 pm with a memorial service on Friday, May 26th at 11:00 am at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church in Westbrook, Maine. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, a donation may be made to WWCC's Memorial Fund in Marjorie's name.
