Obituary

Marjorie Arlene Burchill, 77, of Popham St., Portland, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Seaside Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.   She was born in Portland, the daughter of Roland Rioux and Ruth Green. She graduated from Portland High School, where she met her sweetheart Gene Burchill. They married in 1956 and raised their seven children together in Portland.   Marjorie worked at Vallee's Steak House for 35 years until they closed. She needed to keep busy so she volunteered at Don's Lunch, former place of business of Bill and Nancy Bombard.   Having her yard look nice was a big priority. She enjoyed shopping, going to yard sales, the Salvation Army, caring for her pets (Molly, Tilly, Teddy, and Bijou) doing word searches, wearing flip flops and sitting in the sun. Marjorie had a great sense of humor, which is a quality that everyone she met really enjoyed. Her greatest love was her family and taking care of them. She especially loved to go to all the sporting events to support her children and grandchildren.   She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Gene E. Burchill, Sr. in 2004.   Marjorie is survived by her children Jane Sawyer and husband Charles of Portland, Gene "Ernie" Burchill Jr. and wife Denise of Saco, Nancy Bombard and husband Bill of Westbrook, Tim Burchill and wife Pam of Portland. Maureen Cooper and husband Bruce of Chelsea, Arnold Burchill and wife Jill of Gorham, and Katie Rice of Westbrook; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister Debra Muchie of Florida.   Visiting hours will be 5-8PM Friday, July 31st at Blais & Hay Funeral Home where a funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday. A graveside service will be held as a later date for family and friends. Online condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.    The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice for all the wonderful care they gave to Marjorie. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Westbrook Animal Refuge League, P.O. Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04092.
