Obituary

WINDHAM-- Marilyn J. Mains, 84, passed away peacefully in her home on January 12, 2019 surrounded by her children. She was born in Avon, Maine on January 19, 1934, a daughter of Clayton and Evelyn Brown. She grew up in Gorham and was a graduate of Gorham High School in the class of 1952. On February 11, 1956, she married Gordon Mains and together they made their home in Gorham, raising their four children. Through the years, Marilyn held various jobs; she worked at the movie theatre in Gorham, and Brown Motors in Westbrook as a bookkeeper. She also sold Stanley Home Products, and was a stay at home mother to raise her kids. She later worked at Wuisse Chalet as a housekeeper for over 15 years. Marilyn, was known for her fudge (especially peanut butter), and delicious baked goodies. She enjoyed knitting dishcloths and volunteering at Springbrook Nursing Home in Westbrook. Some of her favorite past times include camping with her husband, bowling, and gardening. She will be remembered as a practical woman with a great love for her family. She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Johnny Mains; husband, Gordon Mains; and brothers, Maynard Brown and Clayton Brown. She is survived by her children, Leslie E. Mains and family friend Diane Dunn, both of Windham, Patricia Black and her husband Paul of Buxton, and Carol Arsenault and her longtime partner Kevin Ricker of Standish; grandchildren, Leslie Mains Jr., Jarek Mains and his wife Alison, Ariana Black, and step grandchild, Brandon Black and his wife Samantha; great grandchildren, Alex, Madeline, Josie, Corban, and step great grandchild Hailey; a brother, Hartson Brown and his wife Gwen of Standish; and several nieces and nephews. A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 3pm to 5pm at the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Rd., Windham, ME 04062. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution's in Marilyn's name may be made to: Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074 OR a local charity of your choice.
