Obituary

Marie Lavoie, 83 years old, passed away suddenly on May 22, 2025. She grew up in Westbrook, Maine and graduated from Westbrook High school. She also held a degree in Accounting from Portland Business College. Early in her career, she worked for Milliken Tomlinson Company, National Semiconductor, and later in her career she worked in the hospitality industry as a controller until her retirement. Aunt Gilbert, or Aunt Marie as her nephew and nieces called her, was full of fun, laughter, spunk and vinegar! She loved a good joke, spoke her mind, and yet had a very caring spirit. Aunt Marie was such a generous soul. She would give so much of herself anytime family members called, no matter if it were her relatives in Canada in need, or caring for her Mom and her Uncle so they could age peacefully in her home– she would do anything for her family! She also loved her animal fur babies! Many cats and dogs were by her side throughout her lifetime, so faithfully, until they passed on in her loving care. They greeted her at the end of her work days and snuggled with her on long days of the winter's cold. They were a special part of her life and she loved them dearly and missed them so much in more recent years. She treasured time with her nieces and nephews and so did they treasure time with her! Oh the adventures she made creating special memories were so fun, including overnight outings when she would take them to OOB, the amusement park on rides, to the drive-in or up to the lake for a swim– spending time with her was a blast as she made everyone feel so special, and her family will miss her very much. Aunt Marie is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Lavoie. She shared a special bond with Pat and Andy as well as their children– her nephews, Tom and Peter, and her niece Deb Lavoie and their families. Her dear brother, Andre, passed away last year, and her other brother Raymond died several years back. She is also survived by her brother, Girard Lavoie and his children from Biddeford, Maine. She has cousins in Canada who loved her, and many grand nieces and nephews who never got to really know how sassy and fun she was in her younger, good ole days! A private graveside family service is planned for sometime this summer. Feel free to make a donation to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, PO Box 336, Westbrook ME 04098 to honor Aunt Marie's legacy. She would love that! May God bless Aunt Marie in heaven, The Lavoie Family
