Westbrook, Marie J. Babbidge, 96 of Westbrook passed away at her home Thursday, July 21st after a long illness. She was born in Westbrook, June 27, 1920, the daughter of Cleophine (Hudon) and Wilfred M. Gouzie. She was raised, educated and lived all of her life in Westbrook. She married Harold L. Babbidge on July 16, 1945 and they traveled a lot and they visited Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. She was employed at the family laundry in Portland at the age of 16, and then at the Westbrook laundry. She worked for S.D. Warren for 14 years and was laid off. She worked at Sanders Associate for 5 years in South Portland and was laid off when the plant closed. Marie than worked at Data General in Westbrook for 4 years and retired to take care of her husband who had cancer. She was a devoted Catholic and belonged to St. Hyacinth Church and later at St. Mary's. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella and the Westbrook Senior Citizens. Marie was predeceased by her husband Harold, sisters; Rose Waldron, Angelina Royles, Germain LeBreton, Francis Gouzie, Madeline Lawrence, brothers, Adrian Gouzie, Wilfred Gouzie Jr. She is survived by her son Stephen Babbidge; her brother Philip Gouzie; nieces Betty Ploude , Constance Gouzie Libby and her husband Douglass , and several nephews; as well as her caretaker Debbie Lee Forbes Fletcher. Visiting hour will be held from 10 AM to 12 Noon Tuesday, July 26, followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook.
