Obituary

Gorham – Marian Maud Davis, 84, passed peacefully from this world on January 9, 2016. She was born in Buxton on August 30, 1931 to Martha (Cousins) and William York. She grew up in Buxton and attended school there. As a young woman, she married Stanford Davis on August 4, 1948. They raised 5 children in their Buxton home. In retirement they built a new home in Gorham and traveled frequently. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage until Stanford's death in 2008. Marian spent many years as a mother and homemaker. She later worked as a caregiver, housekeeper and nanny. She served as deacon, hospitality chair and Sunday school superintendent at Buxton Center Baptist Church. She will be remembered fondly as a caring neighbor and compassionate helper. She was an avid nature enthusiast, enjoyed watching the varied wildlife that visited the field surrounding her Gorham home. She was a gifted cook and enjoyed crafting and gardening. She loved sharing in and hearing of her grandchildren's activities and accomplishments. She is survived by two brothers, Everett and William York. Her five children, Stanford (Carolyn) of Standish, Sandra (Glenn) Moseley of Saco, Ruth Brooks of Buxton, Julie Davis and Marcia (Steven) Smith of Gorham, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild will miss her infectious laugh and delicious macaroni and cheese. The family is grateful to the many friends and family members who cared for Marian in her home and to the staff in the Windsor 2 Unit at the Gorham House. A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St., Gorham, on Thursday, January 14, at 11am, with Rev. Donald C. Smith and Rev. David Butler will officiating. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a gathering at the home of Marcia Smith. Memorial gifts may be made in Marian's honor to the Gorham House Activities Fund, 50 New Gorham Rd., Gorham, ME 04038 or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 New York, NY 10018
