WINDHAM—Marian L. Coughlin, 83, loving wife of 57 years to the late James Coughlin, and the daughter of Eugene and Marie (Gilbert) Thomes passed away peacefully on September 17, 2016 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Marian was proud to have lived a remarkably independent lifestyle, right up until the very end. She was born on July 8, 1933 in Portland, Maine and graduated from Portland High School in 1951. Marian was a full time homemaker raising their four children. In 1975, they hosted an AFS exchange student from New Zealand, Pauline (Allen) Young. Marian remained close with Pauline throughout the years, visiting her in 2010. Marian took exceptionally good care of her husband Jim through the many years of his declining health. They enjoyed winters in the sunshine of Bradenton, Florida. Jim predeceased her on October 26, 2008. Marian will be missed by her children and their families, Barbara Nason and her husband Eric, James M. Coughlin and his wife Diane, Jean Nichols and her husband Don, and Richard Coughlin and his wife, Kathy, all of Windham; grandchildren, Tammy Nason-Tierney, Robert Nason, Jennifer Nason, Shane Coughlin, Dana Nichols, Serena Coughlin, Lauren Coughlin, and Evan Coughlin; great grandchildren, Jack Tierney, Frank Tierney, Greta Tierney, Eric Nason, and Kylee Nason. She also leaves behind two sisters in law, Margaret Carter of Portland and Barbara McVety of Hallowell. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at The Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham, ME 04062. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 AM at Dolby Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland. Following interment, all are invited to a reception being held at Marian's home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Windham Fire and Rescue 375 Gray Rd, Windham, ME 04062.
