Obituary

Margaret Crawford Donovan, 101, passed away with her family by her side on March 21, 2014, following several years of declining health. She was born on December 1, 1912, in Westbrook, ME, the daughter of Stuart and Mabel Crawford. She graduated from Westbrook High School in 1933 and lived in Westbrook for ninety one years until failing health necessitated her move to Scarborough Terrace where she resided for five years. After being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease it became necessary to transfer her to a skilled care facility and she remained at the Barron Center for another five years. Margaret met the love of her life in the sixth grade of grammar school, Raymond "Mike" Donovan and they were married on June 29, 1935, in St. Mary's Church; they shared 54 years together before Mike passed away. Margaret was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed entertaining; she was an excellent cook and her baked goods were scrumptious. Family, friends and neighbors who came for a visit never left without enjoying a cup of tea/coffee and a fresh baked goodie. She was employed at S.D. Warren Company for nineteen years until the Finishing Department closed. She then went to work for Dr. Donald F. Yorkey for ten years and Dr. John M. Stedman for three years. Her favorite hobbies were traveling, gardening and reading anything pertaining history. She and Mike took yearly trips and some of her favorite destinations were Hawaii, Switzerland, Bermuda and Florida. In 1950 they drove across country from Westbrook to Pasadena, CA, and she was in her glory seeing all the historical sites. Margaret was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Westbrook Fire Department, the Westbrook Senior Citizens, the Westbrook Republican Committee, and St. Mary's Parish. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Mike, her three sisters, Edna Crawford, Stella Lowell, Edith Morse and her niece Trudy Stevens. She is survived by her daughter Jane Bolduc and her husband Robert of South Portland, her beloved grandsons, Michael Donovan Bolduc and his wife Tiffany of South Portland, Christopher Robert Bolduc and his wife Jennifer of Norwood, MA, four precious great grandchildren, Emily Margaret Bolduc and Ethan Michael Bolduc of South Portland, and Matthew Christopher Bolduc and Andrew Joseph Bolduc of Norwood, MA. She is also survived by her brother Edward Crawford of Cumberland Center, and three nephews, Dr. David Lowell, Dr. Walter Lowell and Mark Lowell. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Barron Center for their kind and compassionate care. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7 PM Monday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church in Westbrook.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.  On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
