Marcia Ann (Bailey) Blanchard February 25, 1942 - April 5, 2023 WINDHAM - Marcia (Bailey) Blanchard, 81, passed away in her sleep at home on the morning of April 5th, following a lengthy battle with ARDS and COPD. She was born in Portland on February 25, 1942, the daughter of Cedric Sr. and Josephine (Norton) Bailey. Marcia graduated from Windham High School in 1960. Following graduation she attended Aroostook State Teachers College (now the University of Maine Presque Isle) where she received a bachelors degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation in 1964. That summer she married Willard Blanchard, also a graduate of ASTC and they settled in their home in Scarborough where she taught and coached at the high school. The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage in August of 2022. There were never times in those years that she was not involved in helping or working with others as she always had her hand out to assist or welcome others into her life. Following the death of her father in 1975, the couple moved to the family land in Windham where she was at the time of her death. Throughout the years she spent a lot of time as a volunteer for muscular dystrophy and after the move to Windham became very active in local affairs and spent two terms in the town council. Among her many other activities she wrote a column in the local weekly newspaper spreading the news around town. Marcia was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother Cedric (Ted) Jr. Surviving family members are her husband, Willard, a nephew Kevin and wife Melissa, and two grand nieces Cassidy and Aubrey Bailey, along with the many close friends she developed over the years. A celebration of life will be held at Dolby, Blais, Segee Funeral Home, 434 River Road, Windham Maine at 1:00pm on Sunday, May 7, 2023. A graveside ceremony will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Hillside Cemetery in Gorham, Maine with George Libby as the officiant. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Windham High School. Attn: L. Robbins, 406 Gray Road, Windham, Maine 04062.
