LEWISTON – Malcolm E. Herrick Sr., 87, formerly of Gorham passed away peacefully on October 26, 2016 at his home in Lewiston. Malcolm was the son of Florence Marion Kealiher and Abbott Lee Herrick. Malcolm grew up and attended school in Casco until moving to Gorham where he graduated from high school. Malcolm and his two brothers, Omar and Fred grew up on Day Road. Malcolm then joined the United States Navy and later on met his wife, Shirley. Malcolm and Shirley were married in 1951 and spent their life raising their four children on the Herrick Farm on Day Road. To most people who knew Malcolm, knew him by Mac or his grandkids called him Papa Mac. One of Malcom's greatest pastimes was baseball where he coached and umpired for 30+ years. In 2009, Malcolm was inducted to the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame. Malcolm and his wife, Shirley dedicated over 50 years of service to the Gorham Athletics. Their contributions ranged from keeping time, running the chains in football, where most of the community remembers them running the snack shack. Malcolm and Shirley were the recipients of a State of Maine Dedication to the Community Award in 1997. They also never missed a chance to see their grandchildren or great-grandkids in any of their activities. Malcolm was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley (Webster) Herrick; and brother, Omar and Fred Herrick. Mac leaves behind a daughter, Beverly A. Parmenter of Gorham; three sons, Frank D. Herrick of Gorham, James L. Herrick of TX and Malcolm E. Herrick, Jr. of MA; nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 76 State Street, Gorham. A memorial service will be held 11:00am Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the chapel followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery, Huston Rd., Gorham.
