Obituary

Louise May Laliberty passed away on 21 June, 2014 at the age of 89.  She lived her entire life in Gorham, Maine, including her most recent residence at 121 School Street.  She enjoyed a lunch with some of her close friends earlier that day – passing quietly from a tired heart. Louise grew up and lived most of her life on Brackett Road in Gorham, Maine.  She was the oldest daughter of Edward and Rita Dolan.  She remained close to her sisters: Bea Precourt of Shelburn, VT and Anna Landry of Westbrook, ME.  She attended Longfellow School (a one-room school house) for many years before transferring to and graduating from Cathedral High School in Portland, Maine.  She also attended a business school in Portland where she received training in keyboard and key punch.   She was raised in a time when luxuries such as electricity and running water were beyond her family's means, and developed a work ethic that meant that a mere Nor'easter was no reason to miss Mass, work or school.  She was an active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Gorham from its inception in the mid-1940s.  Cooking, particularly baking was Louise's passion.  She worked for the Gorham School department for 24 years in their cafeterias, offering her a chance to both cook and keep an eye on her two sons. She continued to cook for every family get-together, including making most of the wedding cakes for her extended family.   Recipes' were committed to memory, but were written down somewhere for sharing.  For the past 20 + years, she has been preparing menus and meals for seniors in the Gorham area that were served at her second home St. Anne's.  The friends she made there are too numerous to mention. She was married to Arthur Laliberty from 1958 till his death in 2001.  In addition to her two sisters and their families, Louise is survived by her two sons: Kevin Laliberty and his wife Holly of Greer, SC, and his two children Erin and Megan, and Bryan Laliberty of Whitefield, ME, and his five children, Nikkolaus, Anastasia, Harrison, Spencer and Anjelikka.  Louise was also very close to her many nieces and nephews (as well as their children) and enjoyed nothing more than cooking for them. Visitation will be on Friday (6/27) evening from 6 to 8 PM at St. Anne's Catholic Church, with the Funeral service being on Saturday at 10 AM also at St. Anne's.  A grave site service will be held at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery, with a reception following at St. Anne's Catholic Church.  Online condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com
