Lorraine Eva
Dyer
April 4, 1932 – May 18, 2026
Lorraine Eva Dyer, 94, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength.
Born in Richmond, Maine, on April 4, 1932, Lorraine was the daughter of Lawrence and Geneva (Libby) Passmore, and the fifth of six children. When Lorraine was six years old, she moved with her mother and siblings to Portland, where Lorraine was raised. She graduated from Portland High School in the Class of 1949.
Lorraine grew up surrounded by family, sharing her early years with her siblings: Nataleen, Maxine, Helene (“Sally”), Bernard (“Buddy”), and Roger (“Sonny”) Passmore. Of her siblings, her brother Sonny remains the only surviving member.
On July 2, 1951, Lorraine married the love of her life, Stanley Eugene Dyer, at Windham Hill United Church of Christ, followed by a reception at the Dyer family homestead. Together they made their home in Standish, Maine, where they built a life centered on family, faith, service, and community until Stan’s passing on April 3, 2014.
The greatest joy of Lorraine’s life was her family. She and Stan endured the heartbreaking loss of their first child, Keith, who was born on July 18, 1954, and passed away on July 19, 1973. Lorraine carried that loss with grace while continuing to pour her boundless love into her family.
She is survived by her children: Kerry Dyer (wife Denise); Kim Roth (husband Neil); Kent Dyer (wife Lori); and Kristal Hambelton (husband Tim).
Lorraine was a proud and loving grandmother to eight grandchildren: Adam Roth (wife Yuka); Garrett Dyer; Jason Roth (wife Emily); Emily (Dyer) Rogers (husband Vic); Christian Dyer; Jordan Hambelton; Andrew Dyer; and Austin Hambelton.
She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Victor Rogers V, Nolan Rogers, Edward Roth, Ella Rogers, Elijah Roth, and Arthur Roth, with two additional great-grandchildren expected in July 2026.
A woman of deep faith and service, Lorraine and Stan were longtime members of UCC at North Gorham. Lorraine was an active member of the North Gorham Women’s Guild and a supporter of the North Gorham Library. Lorraine was a member of the Degree of Pocahontas holding the position of Keeper of Records for many years.
Lorraine cared deeply for people. That compassion never diminished with age. Even within her memory care community, she remained concerned for others, making certain those around her were cared for and okay before tending to herself—a quiet but powerful testament to the woman she was.
Lorraine will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family, her gentle strength, her caring heart, and the countless ways she made others feel loved, safe, and valued.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Eugene Dyer; her beloved son, Keith; her great granddaughter Lillian Kay Rogers; her parents, Lawrence and Geneva Passmore; and four siblings.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for the fall.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that Lorraine’s legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and in the many lives she touched with her kindness and love.
