Obituary

WINDHAM - Loraine P. Butler, 70, of Windham and formerly of Portland, passed peacefully on February 13, 2019, at the Brentwood Rehab & Nursing Center in Yarmouth, which had been her home for 3 years due to Alzheimer's disease. Loraine was born in Portland, on September 8, 1948 to Charles Pressey Sr. and Evelyn Harmon Pressey. Loraine was a strong and hardworking woman. After graduating from Portland High School, she worked at Fairchild, Blue Cross, provided childcare for many of the neighborhood kids, and worked at Key Bank. She enjoyed working and leading a full and busy life. Loraine's passion in life was her family and she cherished raising her two children. She and her husband Sonny enjoyed hosting regular family and friend gatherings at their home on University St. in Portland and lakefront camps. These gatherings often involved key staples of good food, cribbage and other board games and ended with memorable stories. Loraine, much like her Mother, loved roses and photography. Loraine carried on the tradition of documenting, videotaping, and capturing photographs of nearly all gatherings and events. Aside from all of the birthdays, holidays, weddings, and school plays, many of these events included countless trips to Beechridge to watch either her husband Sonny, son Skip, or brother in law Ray, race, and her children's sporting events, especially baseball which both David and Skip played and her husband coached. Loraine, along with the rest of her family also enjoyed being a Red Sox fan. She adored her children and treasured each moment. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Loraine glowed at Christmas time and she relished in the love, spirit and music associated with it. Each year she would bring home keepsake ornaments for David and Skip. These amassed ornaments, photo albums and scrapbooks, pay tribute to her beloved family and will be cherished by many for years. Loraine had strong values and morals that she instilled in her children. She was passionate about attending and assisting at the Windham Plains Baptist Church and enjoyed being of service to each and every one. She was known for the support and love she gave to her family, friends, and everyone around her. Loraine was a true giver and always put others before herself. She was also known for making others laugh with her witty comments and sayings and you could always count on her to tell it like it is. The memories of these smiles and her support will live in the hearts of those who had the privilege to get to know her. Loved ones who have predeceased Loraine are her husband, Hugh M. Butler Jr (Sonny), her parents, her brother, Charlie Pressey Jr, her sister, Sylvia Morrell, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Loraine is survived by two children, Hugh (Skip) M. Butler III of Windham and David C. Butler and his wife Christine (Giggey) Butler of Gray, two grandchildren MacKenzie and Ryan Butler, sister in laws: Joyce Steere and Lenny Pressey of Windham, brother in law Ray Butler and wife Dottie of Marlboro, MA as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family would like to thank the staff at Brentwood Rehab & Nursing for their wonderful care and attention to Loraine these past three years, and to the Compassus Hospice staff for their comfort and support in her final days. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from 5-7 PM at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church St. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Mark Kuntz officiating. Interment of both Loraine and Sonny will take later in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook.
