Loraine Theresa Buotte, 84, of Westbrook, passed away on October 28, 2016 at Cedars Nursing Home in Portland after a brief illness. She was born August 27, 1932, the daughter of James and Clara (DeMontingy) Kneelen. She grew up in Westbrook and later graduated from Westbrook High School. Loraine was a woman of many talents and she was generous in sharing her gifts with others. As a skilled pianist, she became a piano teacher and shared her love of music with countless students. As a seamstress, she created amazing handmade quilts that were truly stitched with love. With her knitting skills, she made beautiful, intricate sweaters for family members. And, her baking abilities produced sweet treats that were shared in Christmas tins each year. Loraine loved to laugh and to truly connect with others. Whether it was one of her friends from childhood, one of the many friends of her children and grandchildren or someone she just met who would soon be a friend – others were simply drawn to her. Her genuine interest in what they had to share formed the basis of meaningful friendships. She loved and valued the simple things…like playing cards with the kids, working on a detailed puzzle, watching her beloved Red Sox and her annual trip to the Fryeburg fair. She attended endless sporting events, theatrical plays, poetry readings, piano concerts and school functions because it not only mattered to her – she knew what it meant to those she was there to see. The ways in which she chose to spend her time created countless memories which are now cherished, lifelong gifts. Of all the things that Loraine enjoyed – there was nothing that compared to the love and absolute passion she had for her family. She truly dedicated her life to being a central part of theirs. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time and creating memories with her children and grandchildren. She was endlessly proud of each of their accomplishments and truly their biggest fan. While Loraine has now been reunited with her son Mark who passed away on October 30th, 1983, she is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Phillip (Bunky) Buotte. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Rokowski and husband Mick, her son Bruce Buotte and wife Sandy, her daughter-in-law Cathie Buotte and eight grandchildren: Joe and Kait Rokowski, Taylor, Matthew and Sarah Buotte and Abigail, Samantha, and Alexandra Gummoe. Loraine's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Cedars Nursing Home for their compassionate care and support. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, from 5-7PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 11AM, at St. Anthony's Parish.
