PORTLAND – Lora E. Coffin, 99, died on Saturday, February 17, 2018. She was born in Portland on June 20, 1918, the daughter of Albert and Amelia (Peterson) Coffin. Lora worked at Suburban Propane before starting at Maine Medical Center as an administrator. After many years of faithful service, she was able to retire from there at age 65. Lora was a strong and independent person, who had many interests in life. She was an avid reader, which inspired her to volunteer at nursing homes. She would read to the elderly, who were, in fact, younger than her at times. Lora also volunteered at the Audubon in Falmouth, because of her love for nature, the outdoors, and bird watching; and she also volunteered at the Portland Museum of Art, due to her appreciation for the artists and their work. She was an active member of AARP where she met many of her friends. Lora was also a founding member of the Lyric Theater in South Portland, loved musicals and their soundtracks, and was professional singer in her earlier years. Lora is survived by her nephew, Wayne Goldworthy and wife Nancy; nieces, Karen Marrero and husband Steve, and Lynne MacLeod and husband Bruce; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lora was predeceased by her brother, Walt Goldworthy and wife Tina. In respect to Lora's wishes, all services will be private.
