Obituary

PRESQUE ISLE- Lois Amelia (Lovely) Higgins,passed away March 14, 2023 with loving family by her side at the age of 85. Lois was born in Easton October 6, 1937 to parents Daniel and Margaret (Smith) Lovely. She attended both Easton and Presque Isle schools. After graduating high school, she attended Northern Maine Technical College, earning a Certification from their Secretarial Program. She married her husband, Phillip C. Higgins on July 16, 1955, and together, they raised their six children. They shared 44 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. Lois was employed by the Aroostook County Action Program for many years. Even following her retirement she would return to fill in on their switchboard, when needed. She enjoyed her job very much and the life-long friends she made there. She had many different interests and hobbies throughout her life. She was an accomplished homemaker; She enjoyed making blankets, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and knitting mittens. Often times, making these items and donating them to PIHS Project Graduation for auctioning. Lois attended many Easton HIghschool basketball games with her sister, Theresa. In 2017, both sisters received the "Fan of the Year Award" presented by the Easton School Department. She also stayed active in swimming aerobics, where she made many friends and enjoyed herself to the fullest. She enjoyed watching her beloved Red Sox games with her sisters Theresa and Sonya. She was fortunate enough to have attended two games at Fenway Park, one with her son, Kevin and one with her daughter, Lisa. Lois was a member of Framework Church for many years and enjoyed participating and volunteering for them. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was pleased that she didn't miss any of her grandchildren's high school or college graduations and was so proud of their accomplishments. When her great-grandchildren came along, she found even more joy spending as much time with them as she could. She loved them all dearly. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, (Nannie) great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Along with her husband, Lois is predeceased by two sisters, Mona Jackson and Linda Cotnoir, one son, Roger Higgins, a special daughter in law, Holly (Farley) Higgins, and a former daughter in law, Claire Higgins. She is survived by her children, daughter, Jeannie and her fiance, Shane Thomas,of Presque Isle, son Daniel Higgins and his wife Kathy, of Mapleton, daughter, Lisa Dow of Westbrook, son Kevin Higgins of Presque Isle, and daughter Heidi Higgins of Ford City, PA. She is also survived by 17 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren as well as several very special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.at Framework Church, 387 Centerline Rd., Presque Isle, Maine. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Following the service, there will be refreshments and fellowship located in the lower level of the church for those who wish to attend. Interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle at a later date. Gifts in Lois' memory may be made to Framework Church or to the Charity of one's choice.
