Obituary

LIZET TURKER, 89, died of natural causes on October 21, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 8, 1936, in the city of Iskenderun, Turkey, the daughter of the late Abdullah Satel and Zarif (Aleksan) Satel. Her family moved to the Syrian city of Aleppo in 1939. She attended and graduated from the Jean D'Arc Catholic School. Lizet became an elementary school teacher and went on to teach French at St. Catherine's Catholic School in Aleppo. She married Joseph Turker, and they settled in Istanbul in 1971. They celebrated 41 years together until her husband passed away in 2012. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Silvia (Satel) Sultanem. She is survived by her daughter, Anya (Turker) Charchaflian, her husband, Paul Charchaflian, and their two children, Luke and Marc Charchaflian; and by her son, Suphi Turker, his wife, Tatiana Turker, and their three children, Sophia, Joseph, and George Turker. She also leaves behind her brother, Tony Satel, and his family, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, October 30th, at 11 a.m. at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church in Falmouth. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
