WINDHAM - Lewis L. Golder, Sr., 82, passed away on June 27, 2022, at home with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Westbrook on November 27, 1939, to the late Willa L. Cottle and Bernard C. Golder, Sr. of Westbrook. Lew attended Westbrook High School. After high school he served in the National Guard and soon after worked with his father as a general contractor. After his father passed, he took over the business, Golder Construction; owned and operated the business for over 30 years. In 1958, he married Suzanne Allen and they settled in Westbrook and had five children, Teresa, Lewis Jr., Kevin, Sherry, and Holly. They were married for 27 years. He later married Audrey McCrillis Powers of Pittsfield and they settled in Windham. During Lew's career, he built a number of private homes and structures. He built The Carpet Barn building in Gorham in 1971. In 1976 Lew renovated the old Bridge Street School and turned it into eight family apartments, known today as Golder Commons. His customer base, to name a few, included clients such as Central Maine Power, Mercy Hospital, Patterson Dental, Mark Stimson Association, Oxford Bank & Trust and Burger King. In 1978 he owned and developed five housing projects in Mars Hill and Lincoln. These include Hillside Manor, Mountain View Apartments, Mars Hill Manor, Lincoln Manor and Lincoln Manor West. In addition to his loving and dear wife, Audrey, he is survived by his five children, Teresa Brady and her husband, Dan, of Westbrook, Lewis L. Golder, Jr., of Windham, Kevin Golder of Westbrook, Sherry Walrath of Windham, and Holly Packard and her husband, Warren, of Hebron; his wife's two children, Roberta Hodgkins of Waterboro and Alan Hodgkins, his wife Roxanne, of Windham; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard C. Golder, Jr. and Robert K. Golder. Visitation hours will be held 3-5 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church Street.
