Obituary

Leroy (Roy) Pinette Roy grew up in a loving family alongside his brothers, Joe and Kenny, and sisters, Nancy, Charlene, and Brenda. He spent his early years in Millinocket, Maine, where he delivered papers for the Millinocket Journal. At age ten, Roy moved with his family to Portland, where he caddied at Portland Country Club as a teenager and spent many happy hours at the Portland Boys Club, where he played on the basketball team. He graduated from Portland High School in 1949 where he met the true love of his life Dorothy ("Dot") Guptill. The two married on July 4, 1951, beginning a journey together that spanned an extraordinary 73 years. Soon after their wedding, Roy received his draft notice and served 18 months in Korea, where he achieved the rank of Army Master Sergeant, 1st Class. Upon returning home, Roy and Dot settled in Westbrook, building their family home in 1958, where they would raise their children and live for 63 cherished years. Roy worked for 35 years at S.D. Warren (Scott Paper), forming lifelong friendships along the way. A true golf enthusiast, Roy played year-round, taught the game to his kids and grandkids, and even shot his age numerous times. In 1961, he proudly won the Portland City Golf Championship at Riverside Golf Course. After retiring in 1990, Roy and Dot spent two wonderful decades wintering in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, enjoying golf and the company of family and friends. They later enjoyed 12 more winters in Naples, Florida, surrounded by loved ones and the game he adored. Roy was reunited with his beloved Dot on October 24, 2024. We take comfort in knowing Dad (Grampie) will be at Mom's (Nana) side, keeping her warm through the winter. He is survived by his brother-in-law Bob (Beverly) of West Melbourne, FL; daughter Nancy (Dean) Stockwell of Pittsfield; sons Mike (Robyn) of Naples, FL, Rick of Aliso Viejo, CA, Ron (Sandy) of Laguna Hills, CA, and Steve (Lisa) of Milford, MA; grandchildren Matt and Garth (Desirae) Stockwell, Sean, Brandon, Megan, Marisa, Alex, and Andrew Pinette; and great-grandchildren Connor, Lacey, and Nicholas Stockwell, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, longtime neighbors, and of course his golf buddies. The family will hold a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portland Boys Club or a charity of your choice. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Grand of South Portland (Harbor Chase) for their compassionate care over the past two years. We know Dad and Grampie will always be with us on the golf course, by the lake, or when we hear Christmas music. Listen closely, and you might even hear him playing the spoons.
