Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Leon E. Cambridge, 92, of Portland, Maine, who passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026.

Born in Portland on September 27, 1933, Leon was a lifelong Mainer whose greatest joy was the family he built and nurtured. He shared 58 devoted years of marriage with the love of his life, Jeanne Cambridge, creating a partnership rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a wonderful life, raising their four children in Portland and creating a home filled with cherished memories, strong values, and unconditional love.

Leon proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years during the 1950s. His military service reflected the sense of duty, discipline, and commitment that would remain with him throughout his life.

Leon was known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and legendary practical jokes. A lifelong prankster, he delighted in catching family members off guard with a harmless joke or playful trick. His laughter was contagious, and his ability to bring smiles to those around him was one of his greatest gifts. Whether teasing a grandchild, surprising a friend, or sharing one of his many stories, Leon's playful spirit brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Leon dedicated many years of his career to Hunt-Wesson Foods, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication. Following his retirement, he and Jeanne embarked on countless adventures together, traveling throughout the United States and fulfilling a shared dream of visiting 49 states. Their travels created treasured memories and reflected their love of exploring new places while enjoying each other's company.

Leon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne Cambridge, and his cherished daughter, Allison Pelletier.

He is survived by his loving children, Robert Cambridge and his husband, Dan Cain, of Florida; Jay Cambridge and his wife, Stacy, of Windham, Maine; and Karen Fowler and her husband, Tim, of Greenville, Maine. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy throughout his life.

Though our hearts are heavy with his loss, we take comfort in knowing that Leon is reunited with Jeanne and Allison. His legacy of love, laughter, kindness, service, and devotion to family will live on in the countless memories he created and in the lives of those who were blessed to know him.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, July 17th at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Avenue, Portland, ME.
